Throw open the doors to Christ! When we take a step towards Jesus, we come to realise that He is already there, awaiting us with open arms (Rev 3:20)! At the very heart of the Gospel, is a vivid and personal encounter with God’s love.
“This renewed encounter with God’s love, blossoms into an enriching friendship, which liberates us from our narrowness and self-absorption. We become fully human when we become more than human, when we let God bring us beyond ourselves to attain the fullest truth of our being. For if we have received the love which restores meaning to our lives, how can we fail to share that love with others?” – Pope Francis (EG, 8)
What is the mission of the Church?
The task of evangelising all people constitutes the essential mission of the Church. Evangelising is in fact the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity. She exists in order to evangelise, that is to say, in order to preach and teach, to be the channel of the gift of grace, to reconcile sinners with God, and to perpetuate Christ’s sacrifice in the Mass, which is the memorial of His death and glorious resurrection (Evangelii Nuntiandi, 14; emphasis added).” – Pope Paul VI
As Catholics, the love of Christ compels us to be bold and courageous as we share in the mission of Christ and His Church. We are called to serve humanity by revealing to them the “love of God made manifest in Jesus Christ” (Redemptoris Missio, 2). “For if I preach the Gospel, that gives me no ground for boasting. For necessity is laid upon me. Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel!” (1 Cor 9: 16)
What is the New Evangelisation?
“The New Evangelisation is a call to all Catholics to renew their faith and, working in communion, to share the Good News about Jesus Christ with ardour and to be visible witnesses of His love in every sphere of society, using approaches relevant to today’s society.” – Archbishop William Goh
This is a working definition – a starting point, and will evolve as our clergy in Singapore dialogue with each other in 2015 to distill the principles of the New Evangelisation. These will help us all to focus on our fundamental identity and mission as sons and daughters of God and, in time to come, be the reference point for us to review the various actions and activities of our parishes and organisations and align them with the fundamental mission of Christ.
we praise and thank God for His mighty works in you.
O Blessed Mother, Star of the New Evangelisation;
we consecrate the New Evangelisation
for Singapore to your Most Immaculate Heart and
implore your intercession for a mighty renewal
of the Catholic Church in Singapore.
We entrust to you all priests, Religious and laity.
Guide our leaders to imitate your humility and obedience
to God and to be docile to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.
May all hearts be converted and re-ignited
with love for Christ and inflamed with evangelical zeal,
so as to bear witness to God’s loving salvation.
Mary, Mother of the Church,
unite us with the Sacred Heart of Jesus,
to be a people of communion in mission.
May your constant love and guidance
be the light of refuge that leads us to your son, Jesus.
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God,
that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
